You’ve got questions about going solar. It's a considerable undertaking to invest in a residential solar system, and, like us, you likely appreciate fully understanding the specifics before making such an investment. In light of the queries, our customers commonly ask, we've built a comprehensive database of responses that delve into a broad spectrum of solar-related topics, providing clear and detailed insight.

It's common for solar customers to save thousands of dollars over the life of their solar system but the amount you can save depends on several factors, such as the size of your solar system, the amount of sunlight your home receives, the rate your utility company charges for electricity, your utility company’s solar buyback and net metering program, and any incentives available in your area.

Solar panels are designed to last for a long time. Most manufacturers guarantee their panels for 25 years, but the panels often continue to produce power beyond this period, at a slightly reduced efficiency.

Solar panels don't need direct sunlight to produce electricity. They can still generate power on cloudy or overcast days. However, the amount of electricity they can produce is directly related to the amount of sunlight they receive. Our team can take a look at your roof’s exposure and see if it would be a good match for solar.

Yes. If your system is grid-tied, you'll still receive a bill from your utility company. When your system is not producing energy, your home will pull its electricity needs from the grid. If your system generates more power than you use, the excess will go back to the grid, and you may receive credits from the utility company, further reducing your bill.

Net metering is a billing system that credits solar energy system owners for the electricity they send to the power grid. If your solar panels produce more electricity than you use, the excess power is sent back to the grid, and you'll receive a credit on your utility bill. The size/amount of this credit varies based on your specific utility company.

The Solar Investment Tax Credit (ITC) is a federal tax credit that allows homeowners to deduct a portion of their solar costs from their owed taxes. As a homeowner, you can take advantage of this tax credit when you file your taxes, potentially leading to reduced or even zero tax obligations. The value of the ITC has recently been elevated from 26% to 30%, making the switch to solar even more enticing. See guide here for more information.

    Real People. Real Results.

    Ethan Cross

“I wholeheartedly give my recommendation and endorsement to Harbor Solar.  Our consultant Kevin walked with us through the entire process with a clear plan and honest assessment of possible roadblocks.  Our system is performing flawlessly.  When someone asks me if I’m pleased I just let my negative power bill speak for itself!”

    Alice and George Buiac

"We got our Solar panels installed from Harbor Solar. We are already referring our friends and family to solar. What it did for us is it dropped our power bill from $421 a month to $83 from the utility and $136 a month for the solar panels, so now on average our total bill is around only $220 a month! That's with us running our pool pumps 6-12 hours a day. Another benefit was a tax credit of $13,000 and a $2,000 rebate from Jackson Power. Go Solar!"
